Musical phrasing, dynamic contrasts, and independence of line, along with a beautiful and highly poetic text, coalesce in this beautiful piece arranged by Stuart P. O’Neil. Vocal ranges of this title allow it to be easily sung by a mid-level TTB ensemble. Each line functions largely independently of the others while building toward a dramatic climax near the end of the piece as the lyrics depict a sense of love and longing. Taking the time to teach the concepts of blend and balance will further enhance the musical and poetic beauty in this work. All parts have the initial melodic statement. So, teaching that to all students when first presenting this piece will be highly beneficial.
