This piece has gotten a lot of air time and has been programmed on many concerts in the past two years since it was published…and there is a reason! Singers love it. Audiences love it. Accompanists love it. If you haven’t programmed this yet, then you need to! The text is one of the best of late that provides an immediate and strong sense of unity and shared humanity between those who sing it and those who receive it. Sisi ni moja is Swahili for “we are one.” The two-part writing is accessible for choirs who have worked on two-part singing but would be challenging for a choir that is new to two-part singing. There is an optional descant at end of the piece, but it will take some time to finesse it if you choose to use it. It is a strong and memorable ending with or without the descant.
