Category: JAZZ CHOIRS
Composer: Lawrence & Gross
Arranger: Steve Zegree
Publisher: J.W. Pepper
Setting: A Cappella Ballad (Level 3)
This beautiful a cappella ballad provides a wonderful opportunity for your group to fine tune their unison singing and rubato phrasing. The whole piece should be sung somewhat freely. If this is challenging for your group, then have them invest in the choices of phrasing. To help the process, play recordings of other groups and soloists demonstrating this concept before you dive in. It will make all the difference. The tune itself can feel tricky for “new” jazz ears. Invest the time to teach all singers the melody first before you begin. This will reduce the number of wrong notes along the way. They will more accurately relate to the phrasing and adjust the balance with the melody.
