This traditional sea chantey is full of great spirit. It tells the story of a rugged yet desirable life at sea. The style demands vigor and gusto with full-bodied singing. Voicing ranges from unison to rather easy four-part singing. The tessitura in all voice parts is medium to low. I’ve used this piece at the beginning of the year because of its case of range, simplistic parts and energetic singing style. It is great fun to sing and conduct. This selection is very appropriate for a civic or industrial chorus in addition to the school setting.
