This haunting motet by the Scottish composer was dedicated to the dead of the 1996 Dunblane tragedy. The music is characterized by the tolling of low sustained chords on the word “welcome.” Above, two sopranos chant for Christ to remain within the soul. A brief choral interlude occurs on the word “joy” before the opening chords return and the soloists reenter to complete the work alone and in unison.
