Nigerian Christmas Carol

New this year, Andy Beck presents another interesting and accessible option for your children’s choir. Appropriate for winter or Christmas, the Nigerian text praises and thanks the Father God and names Bethlehem as a blessed place. The song is a capella and with some parallel intervals, so not an easy one for young singers. What I like about his arrangement is that he offers different part-writing techniques in each harmonic section. For example, the harmony in section A could be taught with melodic ostinato using do, ti, and la. Those same patterns continue in the harmony parts in sections B and C, but create harmony in homophony, using held notes, and with an added descant. Also available in SSA, TTB, and SAB arrangements.
