Mac Huff has taken this tune originally written by Marvin Gaye in the 1960’s and turned it into a kickin’ rock and roll number. The piece begins with a twelve measure introduction with full instrumentation that sets the temp at m. 160. When the voices enter, they sing a cappella with a syncopated melody line. The melody continues to be syncopated throughout the song, which adds to the excitement of the piece. To keep this rhythmic intensity, the singers will need to accent the syncopations and work for crisp, clean rhythms. There is an instrumental interlude that can be used as a dance break. To conclude the piece, the voices stagger entrances in layers and build to the final phrase in unison octaves. Get a good choreographer and a full instrumental combo for this catchy tune!
