The Gloria from “Misa Criolla” by Ariel Ramirez (arr. by Padre Segade) is an exciting, festive Argentine setting of the Gloria text. Written for SATB choir, 2-3 soloists, piano (or harpsichord) and percussion (tom-toms, triangle, jingles, small gong), the piece has several contrasting sections – solo and chorus responses, slow soloist section, a rhythmic, driving instrumental interlude, and fast opening and closing choral and solo section. The choral writing is chordal and not vocally difficult. Strong, confident soloists are necessary. Very appealing selection because of the driving “carnavolito” and “Yaravi” rhythms, instrumental activity and responsorial effect of soloist and chorus. 2 1/2 minutes.
