This is a lyric love song that my students really love to sing. The tune is well-known in Thailand, traditionally employing the tuning of 7 equal tones, but has been adapted by the composer to make it accessible for Western choirs. Many Hmong families spent long periods of time in Thai refugee camps and learned to speak Thai before coming to the U.S. The father of one of my students formally studied Thai, coached his daughter, and she in turn coached the choir. There are also several YouTube videos of choirs singing this arrangement which can be helpful resources in working on text and capturing the style and spirit of the song.
