This traditional Mexican song is extremely rhythmic and quite challenging, so save it for your more advanced women’s groups. Not only does Mr. Hatfield make each melodic line very rhythmic and complex, but each voice part is so different that pulling it all together is a challenge in and of itself. But it is well worth the effort in the end, as it is a real audience pleaser. Your singers also get to add body percussion to the performance, which adds to the difficulty and the excitement of the whole piece. The initial performance instruction states: “hot blooded and haughty – a mixture of delight and distain.”
