Translated as “Lacemaker Woman,” this selection combines two traditional Brazilian folk tunes into one lively and flirtatious song about courtship and a man named Lampeão. A pronunciation guide is available through the publisher for the Portuguese text. However, I found it confusing. We are lucky to have a teacher at Central from Brazil and he helped us with a more authentic pronunciation. Once again, YouTube recordings are very helpful, although most performances do not include the second verse. Still, it is sexy and joyous, includes vocal imitation of a percussion instrument in all parts, and offers a great introduction to the baião – a Brazilian folk dance.
