Mark Keller arranged this Appalachian folk song for the men of the Dale Warland Singers. It is recorded on the group’s “Blue Wheat” CD of American folk music. Starting with tenors in unison, the piece moves to a two-part texture before incorporating the singers’ use of falsettos and whistles over a tenor melody. Guaranteed to provide audiences with plenty of goosebump moments, the music slowly fades away as the tenors end the piece in another stunning unison. Written for a cappella TTBB, this piece could be performed by a high school men’s choir and by more mature groups as well.
