This piece is fantastic in multiple terms. The message of the text is a wonderful spiritual challenge to its singers and listeners. It is full of contrasting dynamics and singing style elements. The strong homophonic elements pervasive throughout lends itself to great teaching opportunities in terms of solfege reading and learning one’s place in the chordal structure. The tessitura for each voice is traditional. A confident first tenor section adds tremendous character to the interpretation. This piece serves as a great processional in the worship and concert setting. It is appropriate for many ages of singers depending on what performance or didactic elements are being considered.
