The text of this Japanese folk song tells the story of a temple in Shojojee where raccoon-like animals dance and beat their big stomachs like drums to compete with the music from the temple monks. The Japanese words are fun to sing and the music is rhythmic and lighthearted. Shojojee is a great piece for teaching articulation. Marcato and legato phrases alternate and generous use of staccato and accents provide a lot of variety.
