Composer Gwyneth Walker gives us yet another winner for women’s choirs in this original song, Sisters. While I confess that I do not know the other pieces from the cycle “My Girls,” I need to investigate them, as this piece is so much fun. Walker takes text from the Pulitzer Prize nominated poet Lucille Clifton, and gives us a piece which, quite simply, celebrates sisterhood from the early days of childhood through motherhood and old age. All voice parts are challenged with respect to vocal ranges and dynamics. Also, the singers perform percussive sounds vocally and with their hands, which young singers love to do. A delightful piece that I know your women will love.
