Kregler offers up a unique score on the anonymous text “I Want To Go Home”, the lament of a soldier who fears the battlefield. As the program notes say, the poem speaks of human frailty and the brutality of war. The climax of the score comes as the voices cry out for the calm of the ocean, followed by a gentle, pleading conclusion. The score starts with unison singing and opens into a rich four-part voicing. It is a very accessible piece for most levels of male chorus, and is again relevant to current events. The only down side to the physical score is the sub-par engraving (especially in the keyboard) done by Walton.
