According to composer Hatfield, Son de Camaguey “is a Cuban folk song from which I have taken the refrain…and then framed it with kaleidoscope patterns of ostinati inspired by the song, and by Afro-Cuban music in general.” Notes are not hard – the challenge is getting a precise yet relaxed group rhythm going. If you can get five percussionists to find the “groove,” this piece is lots of fun for singers and audence. Duration – 3 minutes.
