A famous Eastern European folk tune and quite accessible three-part pieces requiring singers to explore a tone quality other than the bel canto style to honor this folk tradition. The arranger suggests a ‘hefty and dark’ tone, bringing the chest voice up. Teaching can additionally focus on the attention to detail in vowel unification and vibrancy in tone. The 7/8 meter begs for creative teaching moments, with improvisation as an option with both the voices and (optional) instruments.
