Subtitled “Do You Remember an Inn, Miranda?” this is a rollicking composition that is not for the faint of heart. You will need an incredible piano player as this is one of the more difficult piano parts in our repertoire. This piece is for TTBB and is based on the poem by Hilaire Belloc. Moods change dramatically throughout, starting with a rather chaotic frenzy and shifting to a lento espressivo passage for unaccompanied ensemble. I find this to be one of Thompson’s most colorful pieces and, in keeping with his uncanny sense of text setting, ends with a spooky uneasiness to the line “No sound: Only the boom of the far waterfall like doom.” This piece is most likely for collegiate and professional male ensembles, and is a blast for singers and pianists alike.
