Recorded by The King’s Singers on their “Sermons and Devotions” album, this piece dramatically tells of the death of the British warrior and Christian missionary Bishop Henry at the hands of a Finnish peasant farmer. The piece is scored for TTBB and a solo group of two countertenors and one tenor. Don’t rule it out before testing your guys and their falsetto capabilities. This is a dark work with many chord clusters and unusual harmonic flavors, but worthy of a look for collegiate and professional men’s ensembles. Most of this piece in sung in Finnish and Latin, providing another obstacle to overcome.
