Originally arranged for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953, this standard in church repertoire is wonderful for festival Sundays or any time a solid anthem is desired. It is effective with organ, but especially exciting with the addition of brass and timpani. The first and fifth verses are set for unison choir, the second and third are in standard hymn setting and the fourth has the tune in the tenor. Vocal ranges are extremely friendly. The congregation may be invited to join in singing the first, second and final verses.
