From Matilda the Musical
Sometimes all we need is a simple piece of sheet music with two parts in the correct key, am I right? Even if it’s from musicnotes.com! My 2nd graders didn’t sing this piece perfectly, but boy were they hooked from moment number one. This piece will be a winner for your singers and a tear-jerker for your audiences. Teaching a modern musical theater piece is a wonderful way to work on telling a story as a group, and I’d underestimated that in my years programming concerts. I’d recommend teaching your singers the shorter Reprise of this adorable song, which includes elements of “Naughty,” another song in the show. The tessitura will allow your young singers opportunities to access head voice in the section “even just because you find that life’s not fair, it doesn’t mean that you just have to grin and bear it.” A great message for our young generation!
