This song of Akan from Ghana is sung at festivals and funerals as a reminder to take an active part in community life. The opening phrases are free and slow, reminiscent of the solemn music of New Orleans funeral processions. The second section, adding percussion and clapping, is a joyous uptempo return from the cemetery.
